Olde Towne East

Before the electric streetcar, residences, commerce, and industrial uses were all intermingled. Neighborhoods still existed, but most Columbus residents had to live within walking distance or a short horse ride away from work. The electric streetcar revolutionized the way we developed our cities by making nearby land more accessible. Specifically in Columbus, the electric streetcar routes along Broad Street, Main Street, and Mound Street drew the wealthier class to this area, effectively making this area, now known as Olde Towne East, one of Columbus’s Streetcar Suburbs.
