The Capital City

Regular price $26.00 $0.00

Why is Columbus the Capital City?  Well, it’s not just because it’s the Capital and it’s a city.  It’s because it was laid out to be the Capital.  Ohio’s capital moved around a bit.  First, it was in Chillicothe, then Zanesville, then back to Chillicothe. Finally, in 1812, they decided to make Columbus the Capital.  Why?  Because it was centrally located and easily accessible.  They actually passed over Franklinton, Worthington, and Dublin as the new Capital, and decided to make a new City from the start to serve the purpose of being the Capital of Ohio.  And in 1814, the Statehouse was built and Columbus was on its way.
