Porkopolis

Porkopolis

Regular price $26.00 $0.00

Cincinnati, on the frontier of the west in the early 1800’s, became a booming center for the production of pork. Lands out “west” were far better for farming pigs and southwest Ohio was no different. Add onto that easy and cheap transportation with river boats on the Ohio River and the intricate system of canals, and you have a winning combination to pack half a million pigs a year by 1850. Based on that type of production, it's no wonder Cincinnati became known as Porkopolis.
