The Cleveland Spiders

The Cleveland Spiders

Regular price $26.00 $0.00

Formerly the Forest Citys, the Cleveland Spiders took on the name when the owner, Frank Robison, called his players “tall and spidery.”  With the name change they moved over to the National Association to replace Detroit.  The Cleveland Spiders finished 2nd behind the Boston Beaneaters, in 1892 under the fantastic pitching of Denton “Cy” Young.  The Spiders, in 1895 won the Temple Cup, beating the Baltimore Orioles.  They came close again in 1986, but lost out to Baltimore and weren’t very competitive after that.  The team dropped out in 1900 after a terrible showing when Robison transferred the star players to St. Louis.
