Originally called Lakefront Stadium, Municipal (or Cleveland) Stadium was completed in 1931. We’ve all known the ‘Muni’ as the home to the Indians and Browns (and gratuitous partying on Sunday mornings!), but when it first opened neither played there. The Indians still played at League Park in Hough and the Browns didn’t exist until 1944 and wouldn’t play at Municipal Stadium until 1946. What you might not know, is that the ‘Muni’ still hosted two NFL teams in Cleveland before the Browns, the Cleveland Indians (that’s not a typo), and the Cleveland Rams, both of whom went on to becomes the Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Rams. Add to that the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland is the birthplace of not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 current NFL teams.
